We have numerous inquiries about Club Membership. Hopefully we can answer most of your questions here and then follow up with a phone conversation or a show-n-tell of our two aircraft. Contact us at 719-237-0630 for more information on Club Membership.
- Club Goal… Through shared ownership of our two aircraft provide reasonable flying costs. We are not a FBO but instead a group of 14 members who all have an equal share in the club value.
- Share Value… The club is an LLC and computes a share value yearly. Share value is based on current aircraft VREF values plus monies the club has in its bank account. The club currently has 14 members; therefore, the share value of the club is derived by diving the total assets by 14.
- Dues… We must have monthly dues in order to help pay for fixed costs such as Insurance, Hanger Rent, Avionics Subscriptions, etc. Obviously, we try to keep dues low and only make adjustment through club meetings where costs are discussed.
- Hourly Dry Rates… Members are responsible for paying to refuel the plane before returning it to the hanger. Cherokee rate is $37/hour. Comanche rate is $46/hour.
- Insurance…Each aircraft has an insurance policy. The details are available upon request.
- Scheduling… Scheduling is done thru the club website. Each of our aircraft currently fly roughly 100 hours a year. We seldom have a scheduling issue between members especially since we have two aircraft. Schedule rules are outlined in our bylaws and available upon request.
- Aircraft Checkout...We have two instructors who provide aircraft checkouts. The Comanche, for insurance reasons, is the most restrictive checkout. Typically, a checkout in the Cherokee is similar to a BFR and takes several flights. A Mountain checkout is required prior to flights in the Rocky Mountains. The primary goal of a checkout is safety…
- Instruction… Our instructors do not have the time to provide instruction for additional ratings. Members are able to find their own instructors who will need to be approved by our Chief Pilot.
- Aircraft Location… Cherokee is in a hangar at Meadowlake Airport. Comanche is in a hangar at Colorado Springs Airport.
- Joining… To become a member of the club you must have at least a Private Pilot Certificate, Medical, and close to 100 hours of total time. If we have an available share, club management will pair a potential new member with the member desiring to sell their share. We meet with the new potential member, go over rules of the club and do a short interview, take a flight in the aircraft, etc. We also arrange a meeting with other club members…we want to make sure there is a good fit. All good then the potential member purchases the share from the outgoing member. The transaction is handled by the Club Finance Officer and Operations Officer. There is a $150 initiation fee. Afterwards then an aircraft checkout is scheduled, and we add the new member to our scheduling system.
